Oyo Sugar factory reaches commissioning and test-running stage
Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited (OSDL) has reached the commissioning and test-running stage for its sugar factory in Iseyin, Oyo State. The 300-tonnes-per-day (TCD) greenfield sugar mill was developed under the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan’s Backward Integration Programme.
The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) has provided approximately ₦2.2 billion in total funding, which included ₦1.64 billion for the procurement of the core sugar mill and additional support for sugarcane development. The Oyo State Government also contributed an estimated ₦850 million in equity funding to complete outstanding works.
Kamar Bakrin, Executive Secretary of the NSDC, noted that the milestone is the result of over a decade of financial, technical, and institutional support. He stated that the council will remain engaged as the facility transitions into full-scale commercial production, aiming to demonstrate that Nigeria’s sugar sector can be sustained by locally grown cane.
