Oyster Bay workers rescue three kittens from industrial shredder
Three newborn black kittens were successfully rescued from inside an industrial shredder in Oyster Bay, New York. On September 24, workers at a maintenance facility heard sounds resembling cries coming from within the machinery. Rather than activating the equipment, the employees investigated the source and discovered the trapped animals.
To ensure the kittens' safety, workers halted all operations and began carefully disassembling the machine piece by piece. They called upon animal rescuer John DeBacker to assist with the delicate operation. One worker used a towel to keep the kittens warm while waiting for help to arrive.
DeBacker noted that the rapid response of the staff prevented a fatal outcome, as the shredder would have killed the animals instantly if operated. All three kittens were recovered alive and without serious injury. They have since been placed in the care of a person who is bottle-feeding them until they are old enough to eat on their own.
