Ozempic and Mounjaro weight‑loss drugs prompt health warnings and new food trends in Greece and the US

Clinical nutritionist Dimitris Grigoriakēs warned that discontinuing GL‑1 drugs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro without lifestyle changes can cause rapid weight regain, stating that the medications are a supplementary tool rather than a cure for obesity. He emphasized that sustained results require proper diet, exercise, and habit modification.

In the United States, the popularity of GL‑1 weight‑loss drugs has spawned a market for “GLP‑1‑friendly” foods. Companies including Nestlé, Danone, Conagra and Daily Harvest have launched high‑protein, fiber‑rich products marketed to drug users, though nutritionists caution that higher protein or added claims do not necessarily make these foods healthier. European regulations would limit similar labeling.

Both experts stress that while the drugs have opened new commercial opportunities, balanced nutrition remains essential for lasting weight management.
