Melzer notes that significant weight changes can disrupt the shared habits that stabilize relationships. She cites studies from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Gothenburg suggesting that individuals may be more likely to separate following substantial weight loss. While emphasizing the importance of monitoring BMI for health reasons, such as reducing risks of heart attack and stroke, she advises caution regarding the use of weight-loss injections and pills due to their impact on relationship dynamics.
