OzHarvest expands food rescue efforts to combat Australian food insecurity
OzHarvest is expanding its efforts to combat food insecurity and waste in Australia through strategic business partnerships and large-scale fundraising initiatives. The organization currently rescues and redistributes approximately 750,000 meals each month, focusing on turning surplus food from businesses into resources for charities.
National partnership manager Lisa Dainty noted that food insecurity is a growing issue, with 3.5 million households experiencing such instability. Dainty highlighted that rising costs of living have increased demand, with 70 per cent of charities supported by OzHarvest reporting higher needs over the last year. The organization is also investing in education and long-term solutions to address these systemic challenges.
To support its mission, the OzHarvest CEO CookOff involves 300 business leaders cooking for 2,000 people across eight states and territories. The initiative aims to help deliver five million meals. Participants, including executives like Bain & Company Partner Lucy d’Arville, work alongside professional chefs to engage directly with the impact of food relief efforts.
