Georgia's Prosecutor's Office clears prisoner of sexual violence allegations

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has concluded its investigation into allegations of sexual violence against prisoner Giorgi Davitadze, stating that no such violence or criminal acts occurred. Government officials and the Ministry of Justice have characterized the case as a coordinated attempt by certain political forces and NGOs to sabotage the penitentiary system.

Justice Minister Paata Salia argued that the accusations were organized to undermine prison authorities, noting that the claims lacked evidence and that Davitadze had refused certain medical examinations. Davitadze's mother, Irma Davitadze, has organized protests near the Ministry, expressing no faith in the local investigation and stating her intention to pursue the matter through the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Former Justice Minister Kote Kemularia has criticized the current administration, calling the release of footage from a de-escalation room a violation of personal data protection laws. He described the management of the prison system as a “police regime” and criticized the handling of sensitive prisoner information.
