Pablo ‘Bebote’ Álvarez arrested for international drug trafficking

Pablo Alejandro ‘Bebote’ Álvarez, the former leader of the Independiente football club’s supporters group (barra brava), has been arrested by the Argentine Federal Police. He is accused of leading an international drug trafficking organization.

The criminal network allegedly imported synthetic drugs, such as MDMA and methamphetamines, from Spain and cocaine from Bolivia for distribution within Argentina, specifically in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The investigation was triggered in June following the discovery of 12 liters of liquid ecstasy hidden in oil containers arriving from Barcelona at Ezeiza International Airport.

Recent operations included five simultaneous raids in the City of Buenos Aires, the Greater Buenos Aires area, and Salta. These follow a previous phase of the investigation that involved 27 raids and 11 arrests. Authorities have seized thousands of MDMA pills, ecstasy tablets, and doses of Tusi, along with cash, vehicles, and electronic devices. Judge Pablo Yadarola is overseeing the case.
