Pablo Marçal and associates disqualified from Ironman 70.3 in Paraguay

During the Ironman 70.3 competition in Encarnación, Paraguay, approximately 30 participants linked to Pablo Marçal were disqualified during the swimming stage due to insufficient preparation and safety risks. The event organizers reported that several members of the group demonstrated fear and difficulty navigating open waters, which were complicated by rain and strong currents in the Paraná River.

Pablo Marçal and his wife both required assistance from jet skis to be removed from the water, preventing them from officially completing the race. Event organizer Rodrigo Recalde Larrea described the group's conduct as “irresponsible,” noting that he had never encountered a similar situation in 23 years of triathlon involvement.

In response to the identified risks, the organization increased its security presence by adding 15 professionals to the water safety team. Additionally, four athletes have been reported for unsportsmanlike conduct and may face suspensions ranging from two to four years.
