Pablo Marçal remains ineligible for eight years after court rejects appeals

The São Paulo Regional Electoral Court (TRE-SP) has rejected appeals from Pablo Marçal and the Public Electoral Ministry, upholding a decision that renders the influencer ineligible for eight years. The ruling, issued by Judge José Antonio Encinas Manfré, maintains a fine of R$ 420,000 against Marçal following his 2024 campaign for the Mayor of São Paulo.

The conviction stems from the improper use of social media and economic power, specifically involving a strategy known as the “campeonato de cortes” (cuts championship), which encouraged supporters to produce and distribute campaign video clips to boost engagement. While the court dismissed allegations of illicit resource capture, it upheld the charges regarding the misuse of communication media.

Despite the legal restrictions, Marçal, who has launched a candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic, has expressed his intention to attend the upcoming presidential debate hosted by Band. He stated he intends to be present at the broadcaster’s studios “regardless” of whether he is permitted to enter the building, suggesting he may broadcast his presence from outside the premises.
