Pablo Mella awarded Eduardo León Jimenes National Book Fair Prize
Jesuit priest and philosopher Pablo Mella has been awarded the 2026 Eduardo León Jimenes National Book Fair Prize. The recognition was granted by the León Jimenes Foundation and the Direction of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair for his work, ‘Ética de la praxis educativa. Entre la profesionalidad y el compromiso personal’ (Ethics of Educational Praxis: Between Professionalism and Personal Commitment).
Mella, whose book was published by Editorial Universitaria Bonó, has chosen to donate the one million peso prize money to the publishing house. The award ceremony took place at the Teatro Nacional in the presence of Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo, María Amalia León, president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation, and Reynaldo Chevalier, director of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair.
The jury praised the work for its rigorous examination of the contemporary educational system and its ability to identify current challenges. The text was noted for its clear, precise, and accessible language, positioning ethics as a central axis to restore meaning to education and providing insight into the role of values within Dominican society.
