Pablo Vázquez, PP advisor and Reformismo 21 head, dies at 60

Pablo Vázquez, a former president of state railway operator Renfe (2014‑2016) and ex‑subsecretary of the Ministry of Health (2002‑2004), died on Monday in Madrid at the age of 60. He had also served as a deputy in the Spanish Congress, president of the consultancy INECO, director of the Fundación de Estudios de Economía Aplicada (Fedea), director‑general of the Madrid Futuro project and university professor.

At the time of his death Vázquez was president of Reformismo 21, the think‑tank linked to the People’s Party (PP), and a close advisor to the party’s leader, President of the Xunta Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Feijóo announced the loss on social media, describing Vázquez as the “heart of the foundation” and a “brilliant, hardworking and kind” man. Other PP officials, including secretary‑general Miguel Tellado, also paid tribute, highlighting his dedication to the party and to Spain.

Reformismo 21, created in 2023, originated from the former foundations Humanismo y Democracia and Concordia y Libertad and is overseen by an advisory board chaired by Feijóo. The foundation is currently subject to audit by the Spanish Court of Auditors because it receives public subsidies.
