PACE Resolution criticizes Greek rule of law and spyware use
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted Resolution 2674, which criticizes the Greek government regarding the state of the rule of law and democratic institutions. The resolution highlights several serious allegations, including the use of Predator spyware against politicians and journalists, corruption among high-ranking public officials, and government interference in sensitive judicial investigations.
Furthermore, the resolution addresses the restriction of civil society organizations and mentions concerns regarding the inadequate implementation of EU-funded railway infrastructure projects, linked to the Tempi train tragedy, as well as the OPEKEPE scandal. The assembly calls for effective, independent, and rapid investigations into all confirmed and alleged cases of illegal Predator use, requesting that both criminal and administrative sanctions be imposed on those responsible.
