Pachino Inclusive Beach Opens in Siracusa Province

The province of Siracusa has launched a pilot inclusive‑beach project called “Spiagge Inclusive e Prevenzione” on the Granelli stretch in Pachino. The barrier‑free site features wooden walkways, shaded seating areas and specialised sea chairs with floating safety devices, and is staffed continuously by two health operators and a qualified motor‑science professional to assist people with disabilities and frail conditions.

The service results from a protocol of understanding between the Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale (ASP) di Siracusa and the Municipality of Pachino, financed through National Health Plan funds. An operational inspection was attended by ASP extraordinary commissioner Gioacchino Iraci, Mayor Giuseppe Gambuzza and other local officials. Scientific direction is provided by ASP medical director Sebastiana Iachelli. The inclusive beach is open to residents of the province until at least 15 September.
