Pacific Islands Forum and CARICOM sign partnership agreement
The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Signed by PIF Secretary-General Baron Divavesi Waqa and CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett, the agreement establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation and collective advocacy. The partnership specifically aims to advance the shared priorities of Small Island and Low-Lying Coastal Developing States (SIDS).
The two regions intend to use the accord to share knowledge and expertise while addressing common vulnerabilities, including the acute impacts of climate change and unique economic pressures. The MoU is designed to ensure that the voices of SIDS remain influential and action-oriented within global decision-making processes.
