Pacific Islands Forum leaders reaffirm strategic partnership with United Nations

Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) leaders met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly to reaffirm their regional mandate. The leaders emphasized the need to connect Pacific-led priorities with international action, specifically focusing on climate change, development finance, and the Pacific Resilience Facility.

The dialogue also addressed peace and security within the ‘Blue Pacific’ region, highlighting challenges such as sea-level rise, nuclear issues, and transnational crime. Leaders called for continued reform within both regional and global architectures to ensure institutions remain responsive to the needs of Pacific communities.
