Pacific Islands host nature conservation conference as Benin holds budget session

The 11th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation has officially launched at the Tjibaou Cultural Center. Organized by the Regional Program of the Environment of Oceania (PROE) and the Pacific Roundtable for Nature Conservation (PIRT), the event brings together approximately 400 participants from twenty Pacific nations.

Running from September 7 to 11, 2026, the conference focuses on addressing climate change and biodiversity erosion. Key objectives include the adoption of the new 2026-2030 Regional Framework, the publication of an updated scientific diagnosis, and the integration of Pacific youth into conservation efforts.

Separately, the National Assembly of Benin has convened an extraordinary session in Porto-Novo. Led by President Joseph Fifamè Djogbenou, the session is dedicated to determining the institution's operating budget for the 2027 fiscal year, ensuring parliamentary governance aligns with upcoming national budgetary requirements.
