Pacific Islands showcase unique cultural and culinary traditions

The Cook Islands and Tuvalu offer distinct glimpses into Pacific Island culture through sustainable travel and traditional culinary practices.

In the Cook Islands, particularly on the largest island, Rarotonga, tourism focuses on low-impact exploration. Activities include trekking to the iconic Te Rua Manga formation, e-biking through villages and plantations, and visiting organic gardens to learn about medicinal plants and traditional cultivation techniques.

Tuvalu, one of the world's smallest nations, maintains a unique culinary heritage shaped by its coral atolls. A central element is the cultivation of Pulaka, a giant swamp taro grown in deep pits. This staple is often prepared using the 'umu', an ancestral underground cooking method involving hot stones and banana leaves. However, these traditional food sources face threats from rising sea levels and saltwater intrusion.
