Pacific Northwest Black Pride honors community leaders in Seattle

The Pacific Northwest Black Pride Awards ceremony and reception took place on Friday, August 21, at Seattle’s Washington Hall. The event honored community leaders, advocates, and trailblazers within the Black community.

Founders Steven Sawyer, Autry Bell, and Olivette Foster presented awards to several honorees, including Dominique Stephens, Mike Evans, DESC, Jason Simpson, George and Michael Hampton, and Ms. Aaliyah Messiah. A significant moment of the evening was the presentation of the Rev. Dr. Renee McCoy Lifetime Achievement Award to longtime Seattle community leader George Hampton.

Hampton, a Navy veteran, shared his experiences navigating life and activism as a Black Gay man. The ceremony featured performances by Maureen Parker and Ariyah Jane and was hosted by Joe Taylor.
