Pacific Ring of Fire Earthquakes Surge in July 2026

Between 24 June and 28 July 2026, six magnitude‑6 or greater earthquakes struck locations across the Pacific Ring of Fire. A double quake in Venezuela (7.2 and 7.5) on 24 June caused over 5,000 deaths and widespread infrastructure damage. The following days saw a 6.9‑magnitude tremor in Japan’s Iwate prefecture, a 6.5 event off the Philippines, a 6.1 quake off Mexico’s Sinaloa coast, a 7.3 shock near Chiapas, Mexico, and a 6.8 quake in Japan’s Kumamoto on 28 July that triggered a brief tsunami warning.

Scientists emphasize that the quakes are unrelated beyond their location along the Pacific Belt, which concentrates roughly 90 % of the world’s seismic activity. In the same 24‑hour window, additional moderate tremors were reported in China, Iceland, Peru and elsewhere, underscoring the breadth of the recent seismic episode but not indicating a single causal link.
