Pacifica, California Hosts 10th Annual World Dog Surfing Championships
On August 1, 2026 the Pacifica, California beach hosted the 10th annual World Dog Surfing Championships. Hundreds of spectators gathered at Linda Mar Beach to watch dogs of all breeds and sizes ride waves, judged on time on the board, confidence and wave size. The free event also featured a pet‑adoption fair and raised funds for local animal charities. Competitor Sophia Sadlowski of Huntington Beach highlighted her Miniature Pinscher, Rusty, who entered his first competition at four months, survived cancer and earned a third‑place finish. Tandem heats allowed dogs to surf with other dogs or humans, and safety officials warned of rip currents and sneaker‑wave conditions, prompting extra precautions. The community celebrated the quirky sport, emphasizing camaraderie among participants and the charitable purpose of the day.
