Packaging companies advance sustainability and regulatory compliance

Packaging and sustainability initiatives are evolving in response to new regulatory frameworks and corporate environmental targets.

Progroup has released its latest sustainability report, detailing progress toward material reduction goals. The company has reduced its kraftliner proportion to 10.9%, nearing its 2025 target of 10.6%. While specific CO2e emissions in Scopes 1 and 2 recently increased due to the commissioning of the PPO2 waste-to-energy plant at the Sandersdorf-Brehna site, the company expects the plant to reduce fossil fuel consumption in the medium term as it moves past its initial startup phase.

Meanwhile, Sorma Group is adapting to Europe’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The company is introducing innovations such as ‘Sorma Clipless’, a mono-material net packaging made entirely from High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE2). By removing metal clips, the design allows the entire package to be recycled in standard plastic streams. Sorma is also focusing on structural engineering to reduce material weight, such as decreasing the unit weight of its Vertbag netting by approximately 45% compared to previous versions.
