PACMA opposes orca transfer from Marineland to Loro Parque

The animal rights party PACMA is intensifying legal, political, and institutional efforts to prevent the transfer of two orcas, Wikie and Keijo, from the Marineland aquarium in Antibes, France, to Loro Parque in Tenerife, Spain.

PACMA argues that moving the cetaceans to a commercial zoo does not constitute protection or a rescue, but rather the perpetuation of captivity. The organization highlights a technical report from the CITES scientific authority in Spain, which issued an unfavorable opinion against the arrival of the orcas in Tenerife.

To halt the imminent transfer, PACMA vice president Cristina García intends to contact animal rights MEPs Anja Hazekamp and Sebastian Everding. The goal is to bring the issue to the European Parliament and urge EU institutions and the French Ministry for Ecological Transition to freeze export authorizations. In Spain, the party has filed formal appeals and is calling on the central government to promote the creation of a marine sanctuary in European waters.
