Pad Thai recipe guide and preparation steps

Pad Thai is a traditional dish characterized by its slightly sour sauce and the crunch of roasted peanuts. The recipe typically utilizes flat rice noodles, protein such as chicken breast or shrimp, eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, garlic, and roasted unsalted peanuts.

The signature sauce is traditionally made from a combination of tamarind paste, fish sauce, and brown sugar, sometimes with added chili powder. For those without tamarind, an alternative mixture of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar can be used, while soy sauce serves as a substitute for fish sauce.

Preparation involves soaking rice noodles in hot water for approximately 8 to 10 minutes until they are al dente, rather than boiling them, to prevent a mushy texture. The cooking process involves sautéing garlic in oil, adding the protein until cooked, scrambling in eggs, and finally combining the noodles with the prepared sauce in a wok or large pan.
