Padang and Makassar implement distance learning due to haze and fuel queues
Several Indonesian cities have implemented distance learning (PJJ) measures due to local environmental and logistical challenges.
In Padang, West Sumatra, the municipal government abruptly transitioned students from kindergarten to junior high school to remote learning on Wednesday morning. This decision follows a severe decline in air quality, with the Air Pollution Index (ISPU) reaching a level of 900 due to haze.
In Makassar, South Sulawesi, the local government has implemented distance learning for early childhood, elementary, and junior high schools through September 19, 2026. This measure aims to reduce public mobility in response to ongoing fuel queues.
