Padang and Pekanbaru Public Works Clean Flood Sediment, Repair Drainage

The Padang City Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR) deployed a Rapid Response Team with heavy equipment to clear flood‑deposited sediment, dredge mud and normalize blocked drainage at several heavily affected sites, including Gunung Sarik housing, Muaro Lasak, SMPN 41, Lapau Munggu and Rimbo Panjang Batu Busuk. Department head Malvi Hendri said the effort aims to restore water flow and reduce the risk of further flooding.

In Pekanbaru, the city PUPR began work on Jalan Teratai, removing vendor stalls that had blocked the road’s drainage and rebuilding about 100 metres of new drainage while normalising existing channels. Department head Edward Riansyah explained that the drainage work precedes a 783‑metre road overlay, with the whole project expected to take roughly five months and be completed by the end of 2026.
