Padang City begins dredging Kampung Lapai flood canal

The Padang City Government, in collaboration with the BWS Sumatera V River Basin Organization, has commenced dredging and normalization operations at the Kampung Lapai flood canal in the Siteba area, Nanggalo District. This initiative aims to improve river flow and mitigate flood risks for local residents.

Malvi Hendri, Head of the Padang City Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR), stated that the project was proposed by the local government as a post-disaster management measure and disaster prevention step. In addition to Kampung Lapai, the project also includes river handling in the Banda Luruih area of Kuranji District.

Work began on September 14, 2026, and is scheduled for completion by the end of November 2026. Local residents have expressed support for the project, noting its importance for those living in areas previously affected by flooding.
