Padang City concludes 42nd MTQ with Koto Tangah as champion

The 42nd National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) for Padang City concluded on October 14, 2026. The Koto Tangah district successfully defended its title as the overall champion. The event, which ran from October 10 to 14, involved 636 participants from 11 districts competing across 13 categories under the theme “Membumikan Alquran dan Menguatkan Smart Surau untuk Menuju Padang Maju dan Sejahtera.”

Vice Mayor Maigus Nasir praised the quality of the event, noting that the organization felt comparable to a national-level competition. To ensure continuous religious development, the Padang City Government and the Lembaga Pengembangan Tilawatil Qur'an (LPTQ) are planning to establish Al-Qur'an boarding schools (Pondok Al-Qur'an) in all 11 districts. These centers are targeted to begin operations in 2027 to serve as hubs for training and nurturing the next generation of Quranic scholars.
