Padang City Government launches Population Alert School program

The Padang City Government has launched the 'Sekolah Siaga Kependudukan 2026' (Population Alert School) program to integrate population literacy into school curricula and activities. The initiative aims to increase awareness among the younger generation regarding demographic dynamics and their connection to regional development.

Under the program, educational materials will be tailored to different school levels. For elementary school (SD) and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) students, the focus will be on basic concepts such as understanding family structures, respecting diversity, and maintaining environmental cleanliness. For middle and high school levels (SMP, MTs, SMA, SMK, and MA), the curriculum will expand to include topics such as population growth, adolescent health, marriage age maturity, future planning, and the prevention of risky behaviors.

Rather than establishing a new standalone subject, the program encourages integrating these topics into existing relevant subjects and creative school activities. Officials emphasized that the success of the program relies on collaboration between schools, families, and the community to ensure that the information students receive at school is reinforced by their home environments.
