Padang government to rehabilitate 34.5 hectares of flood-damaged farmland

The Padang City Government is preparing to rehabilitate approximately 34.5 hectares of agricultural land that was buried under sediment following floods in September and October 2026. This damage occurred in areas that had previously undergone rehabilitation following large-scale flash floods in late 2025.

Yoice Yuliani, Head of the Padang City Agriculture Office, stated that physical land rehabilitation will commence once the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR) completes repairs on river infrastructure and water intake structures. This coordination is intended to ensure that irrigation systems function correctly and to prevent future sediment buildup from recurring floods.

The Agriculture Office has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Agriculture to fund the recovery of these fields. Local farmer groups are currently assisting in data collection to assess the specific needs of the affected areas.
