Padang implements distance learning due to poor air quality
Distance learning (PJJ) for elementary and junior high school students in Padang has been in effect since September 9, 2026, due to deteriorating air quality caused by haze.
The Padang City Education and Culture Office has not yet decided whether to extend the remote learning period. A decision will be made following an assessment of air quality conditions on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Yopi Krislova, Head of the Office, stated that if air quality remains in the red or black categories, remote learning will be extended. If conditions improve to the yellow category, in-person schooling will resume.
Officials noted the importance of returning to face-to-face instruction soon to allow students to prepare for upcoming mid-term examinations.
