Padang Mayor orders crackdown on illegal buildings and urban disorder

Padang Mayor Fadly Amran has instructed all district heads (camat) to intensify field supervision to address urban disorder. The directive focuses on curbing illegal buildings, unauthorized banners, extortion (pungli), improper waste disposal, and structures occupying sidewalks, drainage, and green zones.

During a coordination meeting with regional government agencies, Amran emphasized that urban management must be comprehensive, covering environmental cleanliness and aesthetic improvements. He urged local leaders to be proactive in the field rather than merely waiting for reports. The mayor stated that while enforcement will be firm, the city aims to combine regulation with community education to foster a clean, orderly, and sustainable urban environment.
