Padel sport experiences rapid growth in Germany and the Netherlands

Padel is experiencing significant growth across Europe, particularly in Germany and the Netherlands. The sport, which originated in Mexico in the 1960s, combines elements of tennis and squash and is typically played in doubles on a 20 by 10-meter court enclosed by glass walls and mesh.

In Germany, many tennis clubs are expanding to accommodate the rising interest, such as TC Blau-Weiss Neuss, which is set to add three padel courts by September 2026. The sport is noted for its accessibility, as the enclosed walls allow for longer rallies even for beginners.

In the Netherlands, padel has transitioned from an unknown activity to a staple of the sporting landscape, with hundreds of thousands of players. Beyond the physical aspect, the sport is characterized by its social nature and the tactical depth required as players advance, emphasizing positioning, communication, and the strategic use of the court's walls.
