Paderborn officials discuss expanded support for highly burdened individuals
The city and district of Paderborn have introduced the ‘Wohnen Plus’ (Living Plus) concept as part of an effort to improve support systems for highly burdened individuals. The initiative aims to provide better assistance to those affected while reducing public conflicts and crises in shared spaces.
During a joint meeting of the municipal committee for social affairs, seniors, and inclusion and the district's social and health committee, officials discussed the findings of a collaborative assessment. The process was initiated to evaluate potential locations for a drug consumption room and a subsequent drug aid center.
While existing services were deemed functional, officials noted that current systems struggle to support a specific group of people facing a combination of unstable housing, mental illness, and addiction. Without stable housing perspectives, individuals risk returning to homelessness and recurring crises following treatment. A final decision on the implementation has not yet been made.
