Padres infielder struck in the face by 97 mph fastball, remains in game
In the top of the fifth inning of a Padres–Angels game, Jake Cronenworth was at the plate with a runner on second when Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi threw a 97 mph fastball that struck him in the face.
Different accounts describe the contact location differently: one said the ball grazed Cronenworth’s shoulder before hitting his jaw, another described it as striking his cheek.
Cronenworth remained in the game, and one report cited him going 1-for-1 with two walks.
