Padrón water treatment plant capacity increased by 40%

The Xunta de Galicia has invested 10.5 million euros to modernize and expand the Padrón Drinking Water Treatment Plant (ETAP). This project increases the facility's treatment capacity by 40%, raising it from 450 to 630 liters per second.

The expansion is designed to secure the water supply for approximately 90,000 residents across nine municipalities near the Ulla River and the Arousa estuary through the year 2044. The affected areas include Padrón, Pontecesures, Dodro, Valga, Catoira, Rianxo, Boiro, A Pobra do Caramiñal, and Ribeira. The network is also prepared to support Vilagarcía de Arousa if necessary.

President Alfonso Rueda highlighted the project as an example of the need for supramunicipal hydraulic infrastructure, noting that while water supply is a municipal responsibility, the scale of this system allows multiple localities across the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra to share resources.
