Pałecznica reservoir water levels drop, exposing mussel shells

The water level in the Pałecznica reservoir has significantly decreased, exposing a muddy and partially dried seabed. The receding waters have revealed a vast layer of thousands of mussel shells covering the bottom.

While many of the white, broken shells are remnants of long-dead mollusks that have accumulated over years, the drop in water has also impacted living populations. Some mussels, unable to migrate to deeper water quickly enough as the shoreline receded, have been left stranded on dry ground. Visible tracks in the mud indicate the slow movement of surviving mollusks attempting to reach deeper areas.
