Pag Island beachgoers alarmed by wooden coffin found on shore

A wooden coffin found on the rocky coast near Prnjica beach on Pag Island caused alarm among swimmers and sparked intense discussion on social media. The morbid sight led many to question if it was a prank, a performance, or a more tragic event.

The mystery was resolved when it was revealed that the object was actually a prop from the local Pag Carnival. As part of the tradition, a figure named ‘Marko’, which symbolizes the troubles of the past year, is burned. In some instances, the figure is burned inside a coffin which is then cast into the sea. Strong winds and sea currents likely carried the carnival remains to the shore, where they became lodged on the rocks.
