Pagaralam plastic warehouse fire burns overnight

A large plastic storage warehouse in Pagaralam, South Sumatra, caught fire on Saturday night, October 17, 2026. The blaze, located behind the Taman Makam Pahlawan in Dempo Tengah District, continued until Sunday morning.

The highly flammable nature of the stored plastic made the fire difficult to extinguish. Emergency responders, including the Pagaralam Fire Department, BPBD, and local police, utilized eight fire engines and a water cannon to control the flames. The fire was successfully extinguished by approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday.

Authorities reported no casualties in the incident. While there is preliminary suspicion that a cigarette butt may have caused the fire, Kompol Mursal Mahdi stated that the exact cause remains under investigation.
