PAGCOR fines online gaming firm P1M over unauthorized giveaway

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has imposed a P1-million fine on Casino Plus, an online gambling company endorsed by celebrity Ivana Alawi, for conducting an unauthorized promotional giveaway.

The controversy stems from a viral campaign where Alawi announced the giveaway of 100 high-end smartphones, valued at approximately P4 million. To participate, followers were required to like the gambling platform’s Facebook page. During a House committee hearing, PAGCOR Chairperson Alejandro Tengco confirmed that the company failed to seek the necessary government permits for the promotion.

In addition to the fine, PAGCOR has ordered the company to immediately halt the promotion. Tengco warned that further violations could result in more severe penalties, including the potential suspension or cancellation of the company’s operating license.
