Italy judicial rulings: CGIL assault convictions upheld and Casalesi clan sentences finalized
The Rome Court of Appeal has upheld convictions for several individuals involved in the 2021 assault on the CGIL national headquarters during a ‘No Green Pass’ protest. Among those with confirmed sentences are Roberto Fiore, a leader of Forza Nuova, and Luigi Aronica, both sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison. Giuliano Castellino also received a confirmed sentence of 8 years and 7 months. The charges include aggravated devastation, resistance to public officials, and incitement to commit a crime.
In separate legal developments, the Supreme Court has finalized convictions for 24 defendants linked to a Casalesi clan-related criminal organization operating in the Veneto region. Luciano Donadio received a 30-year sentence for his role as the organization's leader, while his associate Raffaele Buonanno was sentenced to 29 years and 6 months.
Other recent judicial rulings include the acquittal of two individuals accused of a 2022 robbery at a Lidl supermarket in Bologna due to insufficient evidence. Additionally, the Court of Assize in Potenza acquitted Antonio Giannetta of association charges related to drug trafficking, though other charges remained. Finally, a judge dismissed proceedings against architect Andrea Adelchi Ottaviano regarding the management of the Catanzaro Lido Port, citing prescription or lack of evidence for specific charges.
