Pahang government open to talks with Berjaya Hills over land tax dispute

The Pahang state government has expressed openness to discussions with Berjaya Hills Resort Bhd regarding enforcement actions taken at its Bukit Tinggi properties. Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail stated that while the government is willing to talk, any resolution must strictly adhere to existing laws and regulations.

The dispute stems from a disagreement over land quit rent rates. In 2020, the annual quit rent for Berjaya Hills increased to RM33.7 million, though it was later reduced to RM25.75 million following appeals. The company had previously criticized the enforcement actions as unreasonable.

Berjaya Corp Bhd reported in a Bursa Malaysia filing that its main businesses remain fully operational and that the enforcement action will not have a material financial or operational impact on the group. While authorities have sealed or restricted access to certain areas, including staff quarters, a central laundry facility, a rabbit park, and a Japanese garden, major sites such as The Chateau Spa & Wellness Resort, Colmar Tropicale Hotel, and the Berjaya Hills Golf & Country Club continue to operate normally.
