PAHO Directing Council convenes in Washington to address regional health priorities
The 63rd Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is convening in Washington, D.C., bringing together health authorities from across the Americas to address regional public health priorities. Key discussions include emergency preparedness, primary care, digital transformation, and immunization.
During the proceedings, various nations are advancing bilateral and regional cooperation. Colombia has announced new strategies with PAHO to improve health system access and territorial equity. Representatives from the Dominican Republic and Sint Maarten are also participating to strengthen technical cooperation and supply chain resilience.
In a separate but related development, CARICOM member states have endorsed the Caribbean Action Plan on Health and Climate Change (2026–2031). This framework aims to protect health systems from environmental hazards like hurricanes and extreme heat. Additionally, PAHO has signed a five-year agreement with Canada’s Bruyère Health Research Institute to advance disease elimination and health equity throughout the Americas.
