PAHO partners with Venezuela and Bogotá to combat infectious diseases

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is collaborating with regional authorities in Venezuela and Bogotá, Colombia, to accelerate the elimination of various communicable diseases.

In Venezuela, the Ministry of Health and PAHO are coordinating strategies to prevent and eliminate infectious diseases. Efforts are focused on maintaining progress against polio, measles, and rubella through enhanced vaccination coverage and epidemiological surveillance. Authorities emphasized the need to reach unvaccinated populations and improve health service access in remote or difficult areas to prevent the re-emergence of controlled infections.

In Bogotá, the city government and PAHO signed a declaration to accelerate the elimination of six specific diseases by 2030: tuberculosis, leprosy, congenital syphilis, mother-to-child HIV transmission, measles and rubella, and human rabies. The plan aims to address social and territorial gaps through early diagnosis, community participation, and intersectoral coordination to ensure health equity across the city.
