Paisley Museum scheduled to reopen in early 2027

The Paisley Museum is scheduled to reopen to the public in early 2027 following a major redevelopment project. Renfrewshire Council announced that the fit-out and installation programme is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The £68.7 million redevelopment, led by Kier Construction with a £6.8 million fit-out managed by HUB Build, aims to transform the museum into an anchor institution for the town. The project has involved significant community engagement, with more than 1,800 local residents contributing to the redesign and the stories the museum will tell.

Once operational, the museum is expected to attract over 127,000 visitors annually. The collections will feature internationally significant items, including one of the few surviving copies of Audubon’s ‘Birds of America’, artwork by the Glasgow Boys, and the return of the life-sized ‘Buddie the Lion’. The museum campus will also include the historic Coats Observatory, Transit House, and Oakshaw buildings.
