Paiter Suruí achieve Brazil's first FSC cultural services certification

The Paiter Suruí indigenous people in Rondônia, Brazil, have achieved the first FSC cultural services certification in Brazil. This milestone follows years of methodology development by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to recognize the link between responsible forest production and the preservation of traditional ways of life. The certification, which is only the second of its kind globally, supports the production of cocoa, coffee, and nuts integrated with the forest.

Separately, the Forum of Traditional Communities, the Observatório de Territórios Sustentáveis e Saudáveis da Bocaina, and Fiotec issued a statement defending Eduardo Pereira Matheus, a Field Coordinator for the Povos Project. The organizations addressed unfounded allegations made by a former collaborator regarding his conduct. Following a formal internal investigation by Fiotec, the claims were found to be groundless, and the institutions reaffirmed their full confidence in Matheus’s professional integrity and respect for indigenous and caiçara communities.
