Paju City initiates basic plan for Imjin River Peace Garden

Paju City has announced the commencement of a basic plan establishment project for the ‘Paju Imjin River Peace Garden’. The project involves a 16-month consultancy service costing 600 million won, scheduled to run from next month until December next year.

The initiative aims to create a competitive local garden of approximately 300,000 square meters. Unlike previous larger proposals, the city has adjusted the scale to enhance feasibility. The project will focus on identifying candidate sites, conducting feasibility studies, and establishing detailed implementation plans, including total project costs, licensing requirements, and financing strategies.

To protect the local ecosystem, national river areas and wetlands will be excluded from the candidate sites. Instead, the city intends to find locations that harmonize garden development with tourism and the local economy while preserving the natural environment. Paju City aims to designate the site for the local garden by December 2027, following site selection and inter-agency consultations.
