Paju City opposes rumors of serial sex offender's entry into local facility

Paju City has expressed clear opposition to rumors that Kim Geun-sik, a convicted serial sex offender, may enter a local rehabilitation facility upon his release. The rumors, circulating on social media and local community forums, suggest Kim could move into ‘Geumseong-ui Jip’ in Wollong-myeon following his scheduled release in October 2027.

Local residents and parents have expressed significant anxiety regarding community safety, with many calling for official intervention to prevent his arrival. Paju City officials stated they are currently verifying the facts but maintain a firm stance against his placement in the region. The city has pledged to cooperate closely with police and other relevant agencies to take all necessary measures to ensure resident safety should his entry be considered or forced.

Kim Geun-sik was previously sentenced to 15 years for the sexual assault of 12 minors in 2006. While he was expected to be released in 2022, he was re-arrested just before his release due to new allegations of child molestation and subsequent charges of assaulting prison guards and inmates. He is currently serving a five-year sentence.
