Paju cafe owner faces charges in frozen warehouse murder

Police are investigating a 30-year-old cafe owner in Paju, South Korea, for the luring murder of a woman in her 60s. The victim was found dead inside a frozen warehouse container installed at the cafe a week before the incident.

Evidence suggests the crime may have been premeditated. The suspect reportedly installed the freezer container specifically for the act and had previously instructed the victim to leave her phone in a vehicle to avoid location tracking. Investigators also found approximately 50 billion won worth of counterfeit gift certificates marked ‘for filming purposes’ inside the warehouse. The suspect is believed to have lured the victim to the location to verify the authenticity of these certificates.

The suspect faces charges of luring murder, as well as forgery and use of forged securities. While personal details of the suspect have been circulating widely on social media, the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency stated they are not yet at the stage of officially disclosing his identity as the investigation into his motives and potential accomplices continues. The case is expected to be forwarded to the prosecution by January 14.
