Pakistan fuel prices fluctuate under daily OGRA pricing mechanism
Pakistan's fuel prices continue to fluctuate under a daily pricing mechanism implemented by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to manage global market volatility. Recent updates show mixed trends, with petrol prices seeing slight reductions while high-speed diesel (HSD) prices have experienced increases.
To mitigate the impact of rising costs on lower-income citizens, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has introduced a relief scheme. This program provides a subsidy for owners of motorcycles, three-wheelers, and vehicles with engines up to 800cc, offering a monthly fuel relief of up to Rs2,000 or Rs3,000 depending on the vehicle type.
Simultaneously, the petroleum sector faces internal financial strain. The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has requested OGRA to resolve Rs66 billion in pending financial claims and implement approved margin increases for oil marketing companies (OMCs). The council warned that these unresolved payments could potentially disrupt the petroleum supply chain.
