Pakistan and Afghan Taliban engage in border skirmish at Angoor Adda
A violent confrontation occurred at the Angoor Adda border crossing in South Waziristan on Tuesday after Afghan security forces allegedly opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani military posts and residential areas. The exchange involved snipers, automatic weapons, and heavy artillery.
Reports indicate that the firing originated from Afghan territory, targeting Pakistani border posts and causing a mortar to strike a local home, resulting in one death and five injuries. In response, Pakistani security forces launched retaliatory strikes against Afghan Taliban positions, including mortar installations and defensive bunkers located in Afghanistan’s Paktika province.
The intense exchange of heavy weaponry forced several Afghan Taliban fighters to abandon their posts and withdraw. The Angoor Adda sector is a critical trade route and a major point of movement between the two nations, and the recent escalation has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of civilians living near the international frontier.
